Modern and contemporary dance

Modern dance is an expressive style of dance that was developed as a contradiction to the very structured technique of classical ballet. Modern dance emphases on using dancer's emotions and moods to create their own unique steps and choreography. Our dancers will have the opportunity to learn some of the most influential modern dance styles such as Martha Graham and Jose Limon technique.

Audition required

Preparatory, Intermediate and Advanced level classes require audition and involvement in all of our ballet theater performances.

Besides studying classical ballet our students will have opportunity to learn character dance, modern dance, dance history, acting, nutrition, and music appreciation.

Preparatory (by audition only)

The level further develops natural gifts, stability, strength and flexibility of the legs. Exercises are executed in different tempos in order to build dancer’s musicality. More complex movements are introduced such as en tournant, pirouettes and battus. Once the students gain muscle strength and control they will be introduced to pointe work.

Intermediate (by audition only)

The class emphases on more complex positions, pirouettes, jumps landing on one leg and grand allegro. The strength of the body, control, coordination of the body, softness in the upper body and arms, and movement precision is stressed. Pointe work is further being develop in the center and first ballet variations are being experienced.
